Product information
What this product does
GitHits gives coding agents access to the open-source code your app depends on. Get real implementation examples, dependency source navigation, package inspection and documentation. Agents can grep and read your codebase. They can't grep and read the open-source code your app depends on. That's where they start guessing, retrying, and looping. GitHits builds a version-aware index on demand. Agents can search, navigate, and inspect the code behind their dependencies. CLI: npx githits@latest init

Unlock the verified intelligence before you decide
GitHits is a CLI tool that indexes open-source dependencies so coding agents can search and navigate real implementation code instead of guessing.
Who should use
Buyer-fit is derived from approved personas and use-case evidence. Search-volume noise stays labeled separately.
Best-fit workflows
- Indexes dependency source code on demand for agent access.
- Searches open-source code by function or package name.
- Navigates dependency source trees without leaving the terminal.
- Inspects package internals and documentation in real time.
- Developers using AI coding agents who need accurate dependency code; better than manual docs for reducing agent loops.
- Engineering teams building agent-assisted workflows who need version-aware code navigation; better than generic web search for precision.

The GitHits origin story: where the idea came from
Then I added:
$9.
- When documentation didn’t explain something clearly, I had a simple fallback: search GitHub.
- One day, Softlandia’s co-founder Mikko asked in Slack:
- Who can find the definition for TranscribeDefinition?
- He was building a transcription pipeline using Azure’s Speech SDK and couldn’t figure out how to initialize the object.
- The official documentation didn’t show it yet, but the definition was already present in Microsoft’s GitHub repository inside documentation files prepared for a future release.
- After finding it, I wrote in Slack:
- GitHub search solves a surprising number of problems if the project is open source.
